That was very informative on how photos are altered to meet some type of ideal. It is no wonder that so many young girls and women destroy their health trying to reach an unattainable and unrealistic state of beauty. The human form is a beautiful thing in its many natural shapes and sizes and true beauty can only come from within.

I am guilty of "retouching" photos all the time. A little wrinkle smoothed here, a blemish removed there, a teeth whitening and eye brightening all to make them look more appealing to the real-estate buying public. The funny thing is that if I DON'T do it, the client complains that it doesn't look like them! Vanity is a killer.

Judas Priest, that was an eye-opener. It's the kind of thing we grown-up girls need to see sometimes, too. And the thing is, she didn't look bad before!

Oh, I have seen that before. It's crazy!

Who couldn't look great with all that? Really messes peoples expectations up. Take a look at any of the old 80's spring break movies. The "hot" girls would be considered dogs by today's standards. And their chests are non existant compared to today. I better stop before I blow a fuse.

Hmmm...pretty cool to see how re-touching really works, but I don't really blame the magazines for women's self-esteem issues. I've been reading mags since I was 13, and in America we have this really celeb-obsessed culture, but if people were really buying into it there would be more anorexics and less obesity. I think there's enough information out there for people to make educated decisions, and a healthy self-image must come from within.

Let's face it, we can't blame the magazines that do the retouching. The people buying it WANT this kind of "beauty." If there weren't gaggles of girls buying these magazines, the forces of the market would push publishers to change their approach, and that just isn't happening.

I am so sick of trying to fit everyone's ideal of what women should look like, I am busy trying to fit MY idea of what I should look like. That is hard enough. I love your blog.... Tawnya
