We live in dangerous times...

Two boys age 9 and 10 years old have been arrested in Florida (handcuffed and taken bodily from school) for drawing angry, violent stick figures depicting themselves stabbing at what authorities have determined to be a classmate of theirs.

I wonder what they would have made of the drawings and graphically violent stories representing my friends and I seeking retribution on our foes?

We lived in less paranoid times I guess (oh yeah, the 80's).
I regularly took a 5inch buck knife to school and no one batted an eyelash when I pulled it out to dissect an earthworm in science class. I still maintain that the 'Exacto' blade was dull.

And when we (a small but dangerous band of 4 girls) pulled a practical joke at school involving (imaginary) dynamite, the Principal - -apologies to you Mr. L. Irwin...we were young and foolish- -just sighed, shook his head and told us not to do again.

Gosh, we would have DEFINITELY been put in jail for that one if we had tried it today. Not to mention sent for psychiatric help for years after...not that I don't need it but...

On a semi related side note, I did find a humorous link regarding stick figures in dangerous situations:

Poor Bob. (or is that Earl...I always get them confused.)

Because we don't get alot of our OWN snow...

http://www.popularfront.com/snowdays/index.html?id=760676

something to amuse all of you UBER-creative people out there.

Did I NOT notice the first 2 signs of the Apocalypse?

Debbie Gibson has agreed to pose for Playboy.

Have I missed something here?

Is it possible that a few of the seven signs of doom are actually THESE...

#1 Leg warmers
#2 Motley Crue re(hair)bands
#3 Debbie "Only In My Dreams" (apparently NOT) Gibson shows us her booty

I mean, what's sign number 4?
Arnorld Schwarzenegger as Governor of Cali...uh oh...

And what's next???

Celine Dion and Anne Geddes teaming up?
http://miracle.annegeddes.com/

Oh man.

Is it possible that the days of pestilence and famine are 'out' and retro-crap is the newest indicator that we're all going to hell?
Oh well, it's a good thing I know the owner!

Correction following last post...

It SHOULD read:

"I'd totally kick your ass if I wasn't a pacifist."

There. It's a small thing, but I feel better.

Mondegreens and/or...

"Holorimic phrases".

For example:
"A girl with colitis goes by." to the tune of "A girl with kaleidoscope eyes."

But which is term is correct...mondegreens or holorimic phrases?
I suspect they both are, but why oh why is the English language so awkward?

I mean, why do we spell fulfilled but full?
Why phantom but fish?
Or laugh and calf?

OH! I'll never get the hang of this!

Disturbing information.

It's official.

Motley Crue has reunited and are going on tour. (or is it 'have' reunited, and by asking that, how uncool am I?)

"Shout at Devil" dude. http://us.ent2.yimg.com/musicfinder.yahoo.com/images/yahoo/beyond/motley_crue/motleycrue3.jpg

Vince Neil, the lead singer, has gained a considerable amount of weight I see. I tried to find some amusing 'before and after' shots, but he's probably banished them all.

I can only wonder why they are re-inflicting themselves on another poor, unsuspecting generation.
I suspect they must be out of drug money or something.
Not to mention all the money Tommy Lee must owe to Pam and her breasts.

Just when you thought the days of the 'hair bands' were over they creep back in like cockroaches at a seedy motel.
Much like ALL things eighties.

Point in fact: I saw a pair of pink high heeled boots with BUILT-IN legwarmers. (!) Now is that REALLY necessary!!??!!

Some of my co-workers seem to think the 80's were amusing and interesting. I try to tell them they are wrong...that they didn't have to live through it (most of the them were only born in 1982!) but they don't believe me.
OH! And I've learned the term 'oldschool' and I can apply it to things like Duran Duran...as in the sentence, "Duran Duran, now THAT'S old school." or "Fishing lure earrings...those are SO oldschool!"

Motley Crue reunion. My head hurts.

(OH! my positive thought about this event is that I am old enough to know they AREN'T cool!)

Positively positive

Well, I figured something out about myself that I'm sure all my dear friends had figured out long ago...I have a tendency to be...slightly negative and a tad critical, not to mention a wee bit cynical.

Now, as one of my earlier blogs demonstrated, I do occasionally make an effort to be more positive. To wit, I have signed up to receive free daily positive thoughts at www.free-positive-thought.com/affirm/me139FS.shtml (because sometimes I just can't figure out any on my own!)
So far, they are of the new agey variety. But you know, I LIKE be reminded that I'm able to change my world by thinking 'happy' thoughts. It seems innocent and naive I suppose, but I don't care.

I think a little innocence and naivete is okay in small, one minute sound bites.
Besides, there's nothing wrong with having a little sunshine injected into ones life on a daily basis.
In this dim dark existence a little light can do wonders. Like bring into high focus all the ills of this world (oops. See! there I go again. I just can't seem to help myself).

So nevermind that...here's my happy thought for today.
"If you're going through hell...keep going!" ~Winston Churchill

(hey, in retrospect, that doesn't really seem very positive does it?)
NONETHELESS, I am making an effort.
(not like it's going to do any good)
ARGH!

Silence.

I've long delayed writing a new post because I'm unsure what to write.

The recent events in Indonesia and surrounding areas have been taking a toll on all, and while I want to write something meaningful and profound, I really don't feel that I have the ability to.

And more than a lack of ability, I feel also that I have no right to delve into others pain and fear to be profound.

So, bear with my silence.
And do what you can, a single hand held out can help.
