Well, HUZZAH!

June 24 marked my 2 year anniversary of being a non-smoker.

So how did I celebrate my hard won, relentless struggle against the evil, insidious demon nicotine?

Why, by having a smoke of course!

Sometimes I'm such a contrary little thing.

Why would I do that!?!
Hey, don't ask me! I hardly understand myself at all.

However.

I didn't inhale!
That counts, right? You believe me, right?

Anyway, the next morning I awoke on my cousins couch at 5:30am with the most vile stench on my person.

The stink alone has reinforced my desire to be a non-smoker! *

So, despite the fact that I 'fake-smoked' a cigarette, I still like to consider the 729 days that I didn't as high achievement!

HUZZAH!

(I think I still need a smack though.)

* Well, that's not quite right. My desire to be a non-smoker hasn't wavered, but after all this time it's almost like I sort of take it for granted.

Thus the nicodemon-taunting...
"Neener-neener, I've been quit THIS long no way you can get me now! I'll just have this one and show you!!

Uh-huh.

We know THAT doesn't work.
It's a slippery slope straight to tar-lung hell, and it's not a trip I care to pay to take.

So perhaps I ought to say that my RESOLVE is stiffened! My choice to NOT smoke is deliberate and firm!

No more of this "teasing the beast".

He haunts and skulks and looks for opportunity everywhere. I've fought him for too long to be so careless.

Be careful...that's how it starts again. Believe me I know. I went from holding Durell's while he did something to putting it in my mouth to see what it felt like,to smoking, ack!

There. Don't do again. >:( At least you woke up stinky.... hopefully the lingering stench will remind you in future that smoking is yucky.

(love that sign!)

Good for you! I've just reached four weeks of quitting smoking and I feel great. Except for when I want to smoke. (hee hee).

Your 729 days is quite an achievement! Keep up the good work. (And don't look back.)

Good girl! One day at a time for all the days you've done it. I am impressed. So, as a person who longs to quit completely (I no longer smoke much), how did you do it?

Hi Tai

Very impressive! Don't backslide now...Keep those 729 going...I know how it never quite lets you go, even after two years you're not safe...

Ah, good for you. I've ben told how hard it is for people to quit. I'm glad I finally got to meet one of these almost mythological people.

At least the smoke kept you away from, uh, smoking.

You should make your own sign that says "Please get your soil out from under my cigarette butts. I'm making a collection and I don't need you environmentalists getting it dirty."

Glad you learned your lesson. haha

I went through following thoughts while reading your post:
Great! (2 years)
Oh no! (She smoked)
Good (She didn't inhale)
Great (Her resolve is firm)

Congrats! I'm a non-smoker, myself, who just stress induced- chain-smoked half a pack!

Ian...I have no idea how I did it.

Mostly I suspect it was my contrary nature that kicked in to PREVENT me from smoking more that anything.
Interesting thing about that same contrary nature...sometimes it works uh contrary to what you want!

Poody, that nicotine hangover works like a charm! BLECH!

*smack* It's hard to put that demon behind! L'Ailee quit many, many times before she finally quit for good.

And I love that sign.

Tenacious T said...

Yep - I quit once long enough to hate the smell of a nearby cigarette that someone else was enjoying even. I took a few chances with the demon and...right back where I started. Only when I drink, but it's still not good.

Kick that demon where it hurts!

My first step to quit smoking is not smoking in my new car. It totally sucks so I can't even imagine not smoking at all at this point. Aaaahhhhhh .... it's so hard to quit!!

I'm a non-smoker but once in a blue moon I smoke a cigarette and it always gives me a buzz. teee heee... Now you know my deepest, darkest secret!

Congratulations!

I find the smell and musty taste that can't be brushed and flossed away more than enough reason not to pick up a cigarette.

Congrats on the two years, but don't even fake-smoke. You never know when the nicotine will trigger/awaken the demon lurking within you.

Spider Walk said...

Yup--that nicodemon sneaks up on ya when you least expect it. I am very proud of your quit. So, you tasted one smoke, no inhaling--just enough to firm up your resolve to stay quit.
JUST DON'T DO IT AGAIN!

I would smack you, but I'll hug you instead. *hug*

Hey, that little fish sign you posted...I remember seeing that with you. Where were we?

*SMACK!*

(but it's a high-five smack for accomplishing such a good thing!)

I love your stubborn anger at the nicotine-peddling, lung-blackening, pick-pocket, lingering stink of those tabacco producers! Your life is so much more free now without that albatros..... don't you think so?

Congratulations on the two years of not smoking. But, please, don't play around with it. I loved the photo of the mat with its statement about not dropping cigarette butts and the fish.

congratulations !!!!

I used to smoke 2 packs every day and then I quit and I quit cold turkey. It was soooo hard and I had cravings sooo bad for 2 years.

I used to ask people to blow it in my face when I missed it but never let myself take a puff of one.

The best part was the cough went first and that was a good thing.
going for dinners and social get togethers were hard at first but you can do it!!!

Be happy about each day you finish as a non-smoker and think about how much better off you are health wise it is a good motivator.

It has been just over 20 years now that I have not smoked.

I can be around people that smoke I don't particularily like it but I don't crave it and I dont despise it.

Good for you !!!
You CAN do this!!!
Keep up the good work.!!!

Keep up the fight! Remember also, when ya smoke, all you get is nasty smoke smelling clothes, hair and breath AND those nasty little lines around yer lips that make you look older than you are...That's enough to motivate me!!

Oh my, I've missed so much at your place while I've been gone! That sign is priceless - would you mind if I steal it for a post of my own? YOU GO GIRL! - smoking is such a bummer in all ways. I don't smoke, but those I love do and it is a constant worry.
